Tips for Pre and Post-Event Preparation
We live for the energy, focus and determination that comes with the week of a client show. Our collective operating in lock-step with one another and the list of deliverables and final details is shortening at a rapid pace.
As producers, we go through an emotional experience to build an event - we are creators and artists. The output is so important and special, and the ramp up and therefore the ramp down from a big event has a real impact on our collective.
PRE EVENT PREPARATION:
Here's how we prepare ourselves to bring our A-game during big events:
- Sleep, meditation, exercise, quiet and calm when possible
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate to keep your head clear
- Fresh air to "get outside of the event bubble"
- Early mornings lead to productive days
- Make lists and double/triple check them all
POST EVENT COME-DOWN:
Following big event executions, here’s how we manage our psyche in order to remain healthy and energetic for our other client events:
Come Out of the Event Bubble
Build a community around you that isn't involved in events to allow you to focus on other topics.
Focus On Yourself
Events require a high level of service not only to clients but to anyone attending. Turn inward after a big project.
Hydrate and Exercise
Get your heart rate up and sweat off the focus, intensity and stress. This brings you back to Earth after a show.
Remove the Responsibility
Event directors often experience "decision fatigue" after an event. Take a few days to go easy on yourself and avoid critical decisions.
Celebrate the Wins
Events are full of challenges. Take a moment to write down what worked, what you achieved and why you are proud.
